Samsung has launched the Galaxy S 4 in India, but one of the little known things about the Indian model is the processor it is flaunting. Unlike, the US and European models, the Galaxy S 4 uses the Exynos 5 Octa 8-core CPU in India. Actually, India is one of the first markets to get the Exynos 5 Octa variant of the Galaxy S 4. The US and European models use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor which is the same processor being used by the HTC One.
The Exynos 5 Octa Core processor is Samsung’s homegrown processor and it features four ARM Cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.6GHz and four ARM Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.2GHz. This basically means for low power tasks, the device uses the low power Cortex A7 cores and for high performance tasks it uses the Cortex A15 cores. This also means that the device only uses four cores at a time, not eight cores. This way Samsung can also deliver better battery performance.
It remains to be seen if the Octa Core variant of the Galaxy S 4 has any performance benefits over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 variant of the device.
