great comparisions.....Which smartphone should you buy? Here's a summary of recent phone reviews......

New phones are continually coming out. Which should you buy? Here's a summary of  recent phone reviews on iOS, BlackBerry 10 and the latest on Google phones running a pure version of Android.

Samsung Galaxy S4
The S4 is an excellent device from a hardware standpoint. Its 5-inch (12.5-centimeter) screen is larger than its predecessor, yet it's a tad lighter and smaller. The display is sharp, at 441 pixels per inch.

Samsung packed the Android device with a slew of custom features, including new camera tools and the ability to perform tasks by waving a finger over a sensor. Many of the features, however, make the phone more complicated to use. In some cases, custom features work only some of the time.

In other cases, you're confronted with too many ways to do similar things. The S4 might be for you if you don't mind spending time customizing it. Otherwise, you must bypass all the gimmicks to get to what otherwise is a good phone.

HTC One
The One is a phone that can match Apple's standards of feel and finish. Plastic and metal are joined together so well that you can't tell by feel where one ends and the other starts. The 4.7-inch (11.9-centimeter) screen is also quite a sight, its 468 pixels per inch among the best.

Two front-facing speakers give you real stereo sound when turned sideways to watch a movie. HTC's camera has a lower resolution than most. Promises of better low-light shots from its larger sensors only partly delivered.

Like other Android phone makers, HTC adds confusion by customizing the interface. There are four different ``home'' screens from which to launch apps, for instance. The One is worth checking out as an alternative to the Galaxy S4 from Samsung, which also adds complication with its custom features.

Google Play Phone
Google has worked with both Samsung Electronics Co and HTC Corp to come out with a ``Google Play'' edition of the Galaxy S4 and HTC One phones. Instead of using customized software from Samsung and HTC, the Google phones run a pure version of Android, as developed by Google.

Essentially, the Google versions of these phones are replicas of the originals, with most of the bells and whistles removed. That's a good thing, as many of those ``improvements'' added to Android by Samsung and HTC actually make the phones more complex to use.

The bad news: The Google edition of the S4 sells for $649, while Google's HTC One goes for $599, compared with the $100 to $200 that you can typically get the original models for with a two-year agreement. And the phones don't work on Verizon and Sprint's CDMA networks.

BlackBerry Q10
The Q10 is a successful marriage of the modern touch-screen smartphone and the iconic BlackBerry keyboard. The interface takes time to get used to, and it doesn't have the simple immediacy of the iPhone. But once you learn it, you can positively zip between tasks.

The downside to the new BlackBerry 10 operating system is its relative dearth of third-party software. In addition, the keyboard eats up space that could be devoted to a bigger screen, leaving the Q10 with a square, 3.1-inch (7.8-centimeter) screen.

Nonetheless, the Q10 is likely to be attractive to the BlackBerry faithful, and it deserves serious consideration from Android and iPhone users as well.

BlackBerry Z10
The Z10 is the first phone to run RIM's new BlackBerry 10 operating system and comes across as a very good stab at regaining at least some of the cachet of the BlackBerry. But the Z10 looks like every other smartphone on the shelf.

It's a flat black slab with a touch screen, measuring 4.2 inches (10.6 centimeters). Only once you turn it on do the differences become more evident. Older BlackBerrys are great communications devices, but are poor at multimedia and at running third-party apps, something the iPhone excels at.
The new BlackBerry 10 software is a serious attempt at marrying these two feature sets.

iPhone 5
The iPhone 5 is the biggest overhaul to the line since the release of the 3G in 2008. Compared with other high-end smartphones, however, it's more of a catch-up move. The 4-inch screen is larger than previous iPhones, but smaller than many Android devices.

The iPhone now works with 4G LTE cellular networks, something many Android devices already did. The iPhone 5 doesn't break much new ground, but it supports the things that really set the iPhone apart: the slick, reliable operating system and the multitude of high-quality, third-party applications.

Released in September last year, the iPhone 5 is getting old. But don't expect a new model until at least this fall.

comparison of new Nexus 7 with iPad mini, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 ?

  • Google has announced new versions of its Nexus 7 tablet and this one comes with a full HD screen and better processing power for graphics and a 5 megapixel rear camera.
  • The recently launched Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 for the 7-inch screen and with 3G is priced at Rs 17,399. In terms of price the Galaxy Tab 3 seems the cheapest but remember this only for the 8GB version of the tablet, although it does come with a microSD slot with 32GB as the limit.
  • We’ll have to wait and see how the new Nexus 7 tablets are priced in India and more importantly when they launch in India
Screen
  •  The new Nexus 7 has the same 7 inch screen but Google has bumped up the screen resolution to 1920 x 1200 pixels which comes to 323 pixels per inch.
  • This is a full HD screen at 1080p.  The previous model had a 1280 x 800 pixels screen resolution which was 216 pixels per inch.
Camera and Battery life
  •  The new Nexus 7 has a 5 megapixel rear camera and 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. It also comes with 9 hours of battery life. The previous version of the Nexus 7 had no rear camera and only came with a 1.2 megapixel front camera. It had 8 hours of battery life.
Processing and Storage Space and Senors
  •  The Nexus 7 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, 1.5GHz processor which is quad-core and Adreno 320, 400MHz GPU for graphics.
  • Google’s tablet comes with 2GB RAM and 16 or 32 GB storage space but no MicroSD slot.
  • It has GPS, Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Compass and Ambient Light.
  • The iPad mini has a dual-core A5 processor chip clocked at 1Ghz and PowerVR SGX543MP2 for graphics.
Operating Systems
  •  The new Nexus 7 runs Android 4.3 the latest version of Android. The problem is that not a lot of apps have been optimised for Android tablets and very often the transition from smartphones to tablets doesn’t offer a great user experience. The iPad mini runs on iOS 6 currently and will get the upgrade to the new iOS 7 when it is released in the fall.
  • The Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 runs Android 4.1 version with Samsung’s Touch Wiz UI.

5G IN FUTURE....THE VIEW

   5G IN FUTURE
  • Imagine switching on your microwave oven to reheat your son's evening tiffin sitting in your office. Or moderating the output of a machine in your factory sitting in the transit lounge in Hong Kong. All at the click of a button on your mobile phone. Sounds improbable? Not quite, for this will soon become a reality with global telcos bracing themselves for machines that will be connected to telecom networks. "The industry will be 5G ready by 2020. The idea is to increase the thru-put by 1,000 times with 1,000 times more spectrum and 1,000 times reduced energy," Wen Tong, head of the 5G mission at Huawei Technologies, the Chinese telco, said.
  • A group of telecom firms such as Huawei, Ericsson and Samsung have started groundwork on 5G. "This is one of the top priority areas for us. We started work on this in 2009. The standards for 5G will be out in 2015 and rollout could be 2020. We will lead the 5G revolution," he said. Huawei started work on 5G in 2009 and has already deployed 200 engineers on the R&D work.
  • Companies are working towards common technologies to make it both effective cost-wise and tech-wise. 5G becomes important in a world where more gadgets and appliances — from houses and cars to consumer goods — get connected to the internet through the mobile phone.
  • India, which is stuck in the red-tape quagmire on telecom, is in the throes of a telecom revolution with billionaire Mukesh Ambani rolling up his sleeves to launch 4G services sometime in 2014. A 4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband internet access with USB wireless modems to mobile devices.Betting on the Indian business , Huawei aims to double revenues to $70 billion by 2017. It has implemented a Total Unit Programme for its Indian staffers whereby senior employees who complete three years will be eligible for equity stakes. The pilot, launched in India in February, covers around 500 employees.

which is the best Water-proof phones samsung Galaxy S4 Active or Sony Xperia ZR?

  • Samsung has just launched its water and dust resistant smartphone the Galaxy S4 Active. This phone featuring specs like the Galaxy S4 will compete with the latest Sony water and dust resistant Xperia ZR (available for purchase this month).
  •  The Samsung phone can go under water and click photographs and shoot videos. It has a fully sealed design that keeps dust particles out and protects against water damage for up to 30 minutes of submergence at a depth of one meter. The Sony Xperia ZR (announced middle of last month) also sports highest level of water-resistance for capturing photos and full HD videos underwater (Sony claims). This phone can be keep submerged in 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.
Which one is better samsung Galaxy S4 Active or Sony Xperia ZR?
  • The Galaxy S4 Active sounds like sporting the Galaxy S4 features (from its name). But no, it sports only a quad-core processor. In India we have received the octa-core Galaxy S4. Also the primary camera of Galaxy S4 is 13 megapixel one, the Galaxy S4 Active manages with an 8 megapixel shooter. In this aspect Sony Xperia ZR wins with a 13 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom and a quad-core processor like the Galaxy S4 Active.

HTC One Mini Vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, which is the best Mini ?

HTC One Mini Vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini

HTC has taken the lid off the younger brother of HTC One, the HTC One Mini. This Mini has been launched yesterday and is ready to compete with the Galaxy S4 Mini from Samsung.

When Galaxy S4 and HTC One were launched this year, the battle was between the metal clad HTC One and the feature perfect Galaxy S4. While the Galaxy S4 was packed with better features and a very good camera the HTC One was a marvel in itself with its aluminum body yet light weight Android. The HTC One gave a new dimension to cheaper plastic bodied phones, showing them that Android can go premium with great design.

Design and form factor
Now with the Mini avatar of HTC One, we can clearly say, yup this is the One. HTC has been sticking to its unibody metal design, and is bringing a premium smartphone within budget.

Samsung is still obsessed with polycarbonate body for its phones, as it says it makes the phones lighter (during the launch of Galaxy S4 in India). Though the Galaxy Mini is lighter than the HTC counterpart by a 15 grams margin and thinner by 0.35 mm, the looks will be the first point where Galaxy S4 loses the battle against HTC’s Mini.
Display and processor

The Mini from HTC sports a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels on a 4.3 inch that gives a 341 pixels per inches. No doubt it will overcome the Galaxy S4 Mini’s super amoled 960 x 540 pixels resolution on a 4.3 inch screen.

The processor part is where the HTC One lose the battle to Galaxy S4’s Mini. With a better display and dual frontal stereo speakers with built-in amplifiers with Beats Audio the HTC One Mini needs a faster processor no doubt. The S4 Mini and HTC Mini sport the same processor Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400 processor. While HTC One speeds it at 1.4 GHz, Samsung manages a speed of 1.7 GHz for the powerhouse. Galaxy S4 Mini packs a 1.5 GB RAM to support its processor, while the HTC One packs a mere 1 GB RAM.

Camera

The camera in HTC Mini will follow the flagship, as the HTC One Mini and carry a 2 ultrapixel camera. (HTC One has 4 ultrapixel camera). Galaxy S4 Mini also played down with the camera with an 8 megapixel in comparison to its bigger brother’s 13 megapixel shooter.

Competition and conclusion

If you want a faster performing phone, the Galaxy S4 Mini is the one. While the HTC One Mini will add to your smart style the performance lags due to slower processor speed and lower battery, might damage the show.

Interesting fact is in India we have a lot of quad-core processor based phones with a 13 megapixel primary camera on a 5-inch to go with rather than 8 megapixel one. The Micromax Canvas 4, iBerry Auxus Nuclea N1, Wammy Passion Z+, BLU Life One, Karbonn Titanium S9 are good phones with quad-core processor and 13 megapixel phones. At a price of Rs. 27K one can also think of the Xperia ZR as a phone with added advantage of being water-resistant.

The Galaxy S4 Mini is available at Rs. 27990. Other competitors are available at between Rs. 15000 to Rs. 20000. HTC One Mini has got a good competition in the Indian market and it now needs to plays the trick on the price point.

The comparisons are given in table

The smartphone had been described by an official from Rogers, a Canadian carrier. The video showed off the device’s ability to function with the help of voice commands. Then there was the feature which allowed firing up the camera with two flicks of the wrist. And let’s not forget that the handset has replaced LED notifications with an attribute which alerts users through a blinking icon of the relevant app.

Specifications-wise, a 4.7-inch HD panel, a dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz and Android 4.2.2, might all be aboard. Also, keep an eye out for 12GB of internal hoarding space.Unfortunately, there’s still no information about a price for the Moto X. But we can keep our fingers crossed and hope that this changes by August 1, 2013.

Listed below are the smartphone’s highly anticipated technical specifications, at a glance:

- Platform: Android 4.2.2
- Processor: 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
- RAM: 2GB RAM
- Display: 4.7-inch touchscreen

wow! Samsung Galaxy S4 mini comes dual SIM worldwide

In India, we got to witness the dual SIM version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini since its launch, various parts of the world received its single SIM variant at first. And now, it’s time for the other variant to hit these parts of the globe. It is being reported that the I9192 model from Samsung which bears two SIM card slots, has landed in various stores across the world.

As brought to our notice by GSMArena, Amazon US is now selling the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini dual SIM variant at $483 and $489 in its black mist and white frost colors, respectively. And then there are other retailers like Cells4U, which is stocking the black mist variant with a tag of $470. Techno Trading House has it listed at $515, whereas Negri Electronics is offering the phone at $520. And Overseas Electronics is selling the device at $580.

Availability of the dual SIM version is also being reported from Egypt and Mexico. And as far as Europe is concerned, a carrier named Movistar from Spain will be seen dishing it out on contract at €35 per month, but it’s not available yet.

Launched earlier this year, this trimmed down edition of the South Korean company’s flagship gadget bears a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, and it runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2. It is powered by a dual core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, whereas 1.5GB worth of RAM, 8GB of storage, a microSD card slot, an 8MP camera, a 1.9MP webcam, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and all other such essentials have also been imbibed into this device.

As mentioned above, the Galaxy S4 mini has been made available worldwide in its dual SIM form. As far as India is concerned this variant was the only one that was brought out over here, and so it can be purchased now at a price of Rs 27,990.

Truecaller database hacked,cyber attack

Hackers have attacked the database of Truecaller, the mobile phone application that helps phone users put a name to the callers.
It is touted to be the largest phonebook in the world. The hackers have gained access to ‘tokens’, or unique locks for different users.
Reports suggest that the data loss could be at 560 GB.
“We have experienced a cyber attack on our Web site that resulted in an unauthorised access to some data. We were able to shut it down moments after we discovered it. Our investigation into the matter indicates the attackers were able to access ‘tokens’, which was immediately reset,” Truecaller has said in a statement.
“What the attackers did not acquire is the needed key,” the company said.
The mobile phone app has been a hit with users across the world. Once you download the app on your phone, it gains access to your phonebook. As the number pile up, it will become quite easy for the users to identify unknown numbers.
“We do not store passwords, credit card information, or any other sensitive information about our users. It is false information that attackers were able to access our users’ Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media passwords,” the Truecaller statement said.
Govind Rammurthy, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of eScan, said that TrueCaller was using an old version of Wordpress (an open source tool), which had numerous vulnerabilities which were addressed to in June version update.
“Hackers had used the available vulnerabilities and exploited them to grab its databases. Upgrading the Web-applications to the latest versions is an important aspect of IT security. Organisations failing to keep their servers fully patched will always be vulnerable to such incidents,”

coming soon Sony Xperia Z Ultra to India, release date July 31

  • The Sony Xperia Z Ultra release date for India has been confirmed by e-retailer Saholic which is saying that the mammoth smartphone will start being doled out from July 31 onwards. There’s no price that we can quote however, as the shopping channel has stopped short of revealing it at the moment. Moreover, no other online retailer seems to be listing this Sony device right now.

  •  The fact that it will be landing in the country on the above mentioned date is a credible one, since we already know that it will be making its way into Hong Kong late this month as well. There, the non-LTE version will be sold at a price tag of around $799, which means that we can expect the phone to arrive here bearing an approximate MRP of Rs 47,500.Unveiled only recently, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra grabs hold of a massive 6.4-inch TFT LCD surface which features the Triluminos display technology for delivering enhanced visuals. This full HD monitor is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. An Adreno 330 GPU and 2GB of RAM have also been granted to the phone. Moreover, it bears 16GB worth of internal storage memory and a microSD card slot for further expansions of up to 64GB.An 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front one find their spots on the device as well, apart from a 3,000mAh battery, the Android v4.2 Jelly Bean OS and other advanced features.
